Vornado recently committed to upgrading the technology capabilities of a landmark building in the best way possible, a wireless facelift. 1 Penn Plaza has one of the first neutral host cellular sites in midtown Manhattan, a site that guarantees multiple cell phone signal integrity led by Verizon Wireless.

Client: Vornado, one of the largest owners and managers of commercial real estate in the U.S.
Location: 1 Penn Plaza, landmark building located in the center of New York City, adjacent to Madison Square Garden.

Project Overview:
1 Penn Plaza boasts 320 tenants occupying 60 floors. Vornado,1 Penn Plaza’s building manager, committed to a wireless upgrade, one of the most effective technology capability improvements, to maintain the building’s edge in Manhattan’s highly competitive commercial real estate market. The professional installation required establishing new pathways, demolishing legacy equipment, providing on-site engineering for space constraints and installing a new fiber backbone to the Neutral site Base Transceiver Station (BTS) from the Base Station Controller (BSC).

Challenges: To meet the extremely tight installation time, Telecom Infrastructure deployed two work shifts over 20 hours each day, six days per week.
